Step back in time and experience a piece of Yuba County’s storied past at the Dannebrouge Mine. Located in Browns Valley, this historic hard-rock quartz mine was first developed in the mid-1850s after the discovery of gold in the region. Over the span of a century, multiple owners extracted an astounding $10 million worth of gold, delving to a depth of 1,800 feet below the surface.
Though the mine has been closed and flooded since the 1950s, efforts are underway to preserve this important site for future generations. The Yuba County Historic Resources Commission, in partnership with the Yuba-Sutter Center for the Arts, is proud to present “An Afternoon at the Dannebrouge Mine,” where you can witness firsthand the ongoing restoration work and explore the legacy of one of Browns Valley’s seven iconic mines.
Join us for a presentation detailing the fascinating history of the Dannebrouge Mine, accompanied by a guided tour of the grounds. See restored support beams, ore hoppers, and historic outbuildings, and learn about the early miners who worked in the depths of the mine, illuminated only by candlelight.
